Enthusiasts anticipating the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start the full month. An free-to-play trial experience is set to become available on January 7th, offering a generous taste into the game's beginning segments. Notably, all advancement achieved within this demo can be transferred directly into the complete game upon its subsequent debut.
This project is a comprehensive re-envisioning of the landmark 2000 RPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant departure from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the previously released HD-2D iterations, this remake utilizes a charming three-dimensional visual presentation. Environments are designed to resemble detailed dioramas, with characters sporting a whimsical toy-like design.
"Even with the previous remake, the main quest was still notoriously extended. Therefore, we reached a decision that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for modern players."
The development team have implemented numerous changes to refresh the classic gameplay loop. These include:
These refinements are designed to tackle one of the 2000 game's most noted criticisms: its considerable playtime. That original main quest was known to require more than 100 hours to see through. The reimagined edition has been specifically reworked to refine progression and reduce any repetition.
Interested JRPG fans can begin exploring the transformed world of DQ7 firsthand when the complimentary trial becomes available on Jan. 7. The complete game, Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined, will then be set to release on 5th February 2026. The title will be released on a wide range of systems, such as Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox.
