Experience this Revamped Classic Journey: This Free Demo for Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Enthusiasts anticipating the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start the full month. An free-to-play trial experience is set to become available on January 7th, offering a generous taste into the game's beginning segments. Notably, all advancement achieved within this demo can be transferred directly into the complete game upon its subsequent debut.

More Than a Straightforward Remake: The Thorough Transformation

This project is a comprehensive re-envisioning of the landmark 2000 RPG, originally known as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant departure from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the previously released HD-2D iterations, this remake utilizes a charming three-dimensional visual presentation. Environments are designed to resemble detailed dioramas, with characters sporting a whimsical toy-like design.

"Even with the previous remake, the main quest was still notoriously extended. Therefore, we reached a decision that we wanted to condense the story, [and] make this experience for modern players."

Significant Mechanical Improvements & Modernizations

The development team have implemented numerous changes to refresh the classic gameplay loop. These include:

  • Expedited Overworld Encounters: Taking a cue from contemporary role-playing games, weaker monsters can now be defeated instantly on the overworld map eliminating the need for entering a full turn-based battle sequence.
  • Variable Combat Pace: Players can speed up combat animations to rapidly get past less challenging fights.
  • Expanded Job Mechanics: One brand new job class has been added for this reimagining. Furthermore, characters now have the capacity to master a second vocation, significantly enhancing customization depth.

These refinements are designed to tackle one of the 2000 game's most noted criticisms: its considerable playtime. That original main quest was known to require more than 100 hours to see through. The reimagined edition has been specifically reworked to refine progression and reduce any repetition.
