A woman accused with harassing Kate McCann apparently deposited her a voicemail message which asked: "suppose I am Madeleine?"

Julia Wandelt, twenty-four, who witnesses stated has persistently asserted she was the missing Madeleine McCann, and her co-defendant are standing trial charged with stalking Kate and Gerry McCann between June 2022 and February this year.

On Monday, Leicester Crown Court heard communication data and information retrieved from phones documented Ms Wandelt consistently asking Madeleine's mother for a DNA test throughout 2023 and 2024.

Madeleine's case in 2007 - as a three-year-old during a trip in Portugal - is considered the most covered missing child cases and remains open.

'I Am Not Seeking Money'

Another phone message, shared in court, documented Ms Wandelt saying: "I know I'm overweight and unattractive like Madeleine was, but I know what I feel."

While one recording of Ms Wandelt's recordings with Mrs McCann's recording stated: "Imagine there is a tiny probability that I'm her? What then? Is that not significant for you?"

"I don't want money, I have a existence here in Poland, I simply desire to discover," the recording stated.

The jury was told that via emails, SMS messages and calls, Ms Wandelt asked for a DNA test, transmitted childhood photos to her phone in a effort to display a similarity to Mrs McCann's disappeared daughter, and claimed to have "recollections" from a youth with the McCanns.

The investigator, an investigator with the police force who gathered the evidence, advised the court there "showed no any responses" from Mrs McCann.

Ms Wandelt also contacted family friends of the McCanns, based on the communication logs.

On that date, Gerry McCann picked up a phone call from Ms Wandelt to his wife's phone, saying she had "a wrong number."

That day Ms Wandelt recorded a message on Mrs McCann's voicemail declaring "I won't give up and I intend to demonstrate my claim."

The court was informed Mrs Spragg established a association online with Ms Wandelt before accompanying her on a visit to the McCanns' home in Leicestershire in last December.

Phone records revealed Mrs Spragg had communicated using messaging service to Mrs McCann to state the press had portrayed Ms Wandelt as "mentally unstable" but that she should be taken seriously in the period leading up to the appearance to Rothley, that area, in December 2024.

The court was told message exchanges between the two defendants, in last November, discussing attempting to get Mrs McCann's biological evidence from her bins or from utensils at a dining venue.

"We have to take action," the co-defendant advised Ms Wandelt.

On the night of the appearance to their home, Mrs Spragg sent a communication which stated: "We find ourselves sitting near the McCanns' residence with our vehicle dark similar to investigators. I desired to achieve this with another person I never thought I would be involved in this with the McCanns."

The trial proceeds.
