A Ton of Anime News Landed Over the Festive Season

The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pastimes far superior than scanning the headlines: discovering surprises, getting stuffed on delicious food, and harnessing meditation skills to not yelling at loved ones. Hopefully you succeeded in accomplish all these things and more. That said, the entertainment world doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling news items emerged during the holidays, and just in case you missed any, here is a summary of the biggest bits.

One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)

Perhaps the most surprising revelation, the notorious controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter more episodes. Season 3 will return with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will continue to be at the helm. On a positive note this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is attached to direct from the start, which could be taken as a positive development. However, the main art for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Will Be the First Shonen Jump Anime Produced By Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has established a standing for being an elite animation studio, making its mark not just for the superb artistry of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime based on a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the best-known magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved widespread acclaim when it debuted in 2022 after just a few chapters, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it hadn't lost the fans' affection and enthusiasm, and now everyone is overjoyed about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.

The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Is Getting a Follow-Up Currently in Production

Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've never heard of it before, it's because it only just received an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and its sixth season was a further outstanding entry. As it happens that was just the initial batch, because a "sequel" has been announced as in development, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

One more studio known for the excellent quality of its projects, Science Saru has delivered hit shows of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the true story of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a highly unique and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my must-watch list.

Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the conclusion of episode 24, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The upcoming season of the anime will delve into the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has not yet been announced.
