It might not have been at the identical stature as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“The swine has done no wrong. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the traditional fowl clemency at the White House.
The animal, donated by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often without clear purpose. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
The pardoned swine is now destined to live out its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The annual pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: joyful, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Every time, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way unique to Miami.”
Attendees enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
